We recently held a great webinar on the inner workings of common word vector approaches.
There is a lot of buzz around the field of natural language processing (NLP), which makes it possible for computers to detect and understand patterns quickly within truly huge amounts of language data. From online reviews to audio recordings, to thousands upon thousands of pieces of text, with NLP, computers are being taught to truly analyze and understand human language.
Before data scientists can really dig into an NLP problem, however, they must lay the groundwork that helps a model make sense of the different units of language it will encounter.
This groundwork paves the way for all the amazing things you see being performed by the computers today.
Our webinar, “Word Embeddings and Vector Approaches: From Intuition to Practice,” talks about word embeddings – a step up above neural networks in the text-based applications. Our human brain naturally processes tasks like classification, search, and translation. We know when we see the letters ‘a,’ ‘t,’ ‘c’ together it means a ‘cat.’ Our brain can also figure out the context – like, for example, what are the similarities between pizza and pasta? or pizza and Italy?
